The laundry / housekeeping department comprises of a total of 44 staff doing washing, repairs to linen as well as hospital cleaning. It is a busy department and operates on a 24 hour basis to keep the hospital well-supplied. An average day sees around 600kg of washing. Washing machines are used but not always that efficient, leaving the staff to scrub a large percentage by hand. Laundry is then carried up to the hospital roof for drying.
